Grain Filling: Where Yield Is Finally Decided
Understand what happens during grain filling and why it matters for grain weight, size, uniformity and marketable yield.
TopGrain® is India's first dedicated Grain Filling Technology, designed specifically for paddy and wheat. It works at the physiological level to strengthen the crop's natural grain-filling process and help transfer the plant's growth potential into developing grains.
It supports efficient sugar movement and starch formation during grain development, helping the crop convert growth into yield.
What Happens During Grain Filling?
Grain filling is the stage when food produced through photosynthesis in leaves, together with stored energy in the stem, moves into developing grains and gradually fills them until maturity.
What Is Decided During This Stage?
- Grain weight
- Grain size
- Grain uniformity
- Final marketable yield
Why Can Filling Become Inefficient?
Heat, moisture imbalance, nutrient limitation and hormonal imbalance can disturb the movement of food towards developing grains. The crop can therefore look healthy externally while grains do not receive enough energy to fill completely.
